Last weekend at the always inspiring SobCon event in Chicago, I had the opportunity to meet Greg Hartle, the itinerate business consultant and philosopher.
He’s on a mission to visit 50 states, collect 501 stories, and demonstrate that it’s possible to make a living starting from scratch–even in this new, challenging (to say the least) economy.
He started his journey with ten dollars, a laptop, and the clothes on his back (can you say, OS!M?):
“In an effort to truly understand what it takes to navigate the new economy,” says Greg. “I’ve personally given up all my possessions including my vehicle and basically started my life over with just $10 and my laptop. That means there may be days I don’t eat or have a place to sleep. I will have to rely completely on my ideas, creativity, experience, hard work, the generosity of others, and what I learn from the people I meet along the way to reconstruct my life from zero. Let’s find out together what it will take to build a life and businesses in this new economy.”
Yes, let’s!
Go, learn, and egg him on. Greg’s blog and journey-in-progress is not to be missed.
Thank you for your kind words, Steve. You impacted me immensely over the SOBCon weekend. Body of Work…a phrase I’ve been thinking about since you first said those words. If there is anything I can do for you or your readers, please call on me. I’m here to serve.
I too had the honor at SOBCon to spend time with Greg. His journey is not only inspirational, it’s paradigm shifting. All to often, most people think the root of their essence must revolve around material things and stability. Greg definitely goes against this traditional thinking.
He mentioned to me that his anxiety grows as the time gets closer to finding a place to sleep. And is greatly relieved when he knows there will be a roof over his head for the night. This mindset is extraordinary, as he truly lives day to day. Each day is a new day. Remarkable!
I recommend everyone reading this to follow his journey.
Steve,
I should have written a while back, but wanted to thank you for introducing me to Greg’s blog. I have followed his journey since I read your post. I am fascinated and inspired by what he is doing. I may have to send him an invite and have him join me in conversation at The Conversation Hub! Thanks again!
