When I first told my lit agent, Jim Levine, that the subtitle for my new book was going to be Stoke Your Business, Amp Your Life and Change the World, he thought for a moment and said, “hmmm…modest promise.”
Listen, I’m not naive. I knew that it would sound idealistic to some and unrealistic to others. But it’s not. Where is it written, where’s the universal law that says doing great business, amplifying personal joy and meaning and changing the world are mutually exclusive ideas?
Not only are all of those elements important, but we should be striving to do all three simultaneously. That’s what I call the Radical Edge.
Do you think that’s possible?
Before you answer, invest ten minutes or so in watching this video from Ashoka. You’ll see several cases of “leading entrepreneurs [who] are creating a world where everyone will be a change maker.”
Watch the video and let me know what you think.
Steve, yes it is possible. Watching the video only made me believe it even more. It reminded me of a quote I just read yesterday by T.E Lawrence – “Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, Awake to find that all was vanity; But the dreamers of day are dangerous men, that they act their dreams with open eyes to make it possible”. Keep dreaming with open eyes Steve. Good luck with the book.
