I’m in Washington, DC this weekend for the annual Book Expo America (BEA)–the publishing industry’s immense, intense, frenetic, circus of a trade show. All the publishers, hawking the latest and soon-to-be-latest books, mixed together with authors, agents, PR folks, marketeers and would-bes, wannabes, and could-bes in each of the above categories. And of course, the illustrious centers of incessant attention: the booksellers. We love them. All 20 gazillion of them. We would kiss them all, if they’d let us.
Some do.
Quite a few celebrities show up at this thing, too. The last BEA I went to was two years ago in Chicago, right after The Radical Leap came out. I met Dr. Ruth.
Well…not really, but I did walk behind her for about ten minutes.
She’s very, very short. No, really. Very…very…short.
So, who knows which celebrity I’ll walk behind this time.
I’ll try to report in over the weekend.
