Steve – what a great story.
My Dad is 81 and a life long learner. Listening to you talk about Marvin makes me think of my Dad.
I wrote about him on Father’s Day.

This is just fabulous. The world may appear on the surface to be “a mess,” but the work Marvin’s been doing all his life is manifesting here and now. Like a pebble in a pond, Marvin might never see all the ripples he’s created. But he’s influenced you, Steve, and through you, me and countless others. Keep on BEING who you’re BEING, Marvin. That’s what will make the most profound difference.
Thank you so much for sharing this story – and for all you BE, Steve!

Powerful post, Steve. I lost my dad when he was 58 and I was 25. While I still miss him 14 years later, I don’t grieve. He left a tremendous legacy… of life, of laughter, of love. He embraced people and enjoyed activity. He made a wife and three children feel cherished and special. That’s what a legacy does… it shines on in the lives of others. It sounds like Marvin’s legacy has already taken root in you, Steve, and in others. I wish I could have more students like Marvin in my classes… I can only imagine the stories he would be able to share with the class and with me. Thanks for sharing a living tribute to a great man who has had a lasting influence on you.

There are 100,000s of Marvins and Ruths out there willing to share with us, if we would just slow down long enough and take the time to listen and converse with them…but sadly we are often too busy reinventing the wheel. Marvin, don’t let what the media decides to show/tell us of the world jade your perpective. There are alot of good, generous, kind hearted people left out there, just like you!
