Last week, I launched a campaign to give a free digital copy of The Radical Leap Re-Energized to every educator in the US (that’s somewhere between 4 and 5 million people!) and around the world, too.
Why do such a thing? After all, Leap represents the core of my body of work, the pillars of my Extreme Leadership platform and the most significant element of my intellectual property. So, why on earth would I give that away?
It’s simple really, and more than a little ironic, too.
First, I’ve heard from many, many educators who believe the ideas in Leap can help them change the world of education. (Honestly, this was never my intention when I was writing the book–I thought I was only going to reach business people).
And, second (this is the ironic–and tragic–part), many educators in the K – 12 world don’t have any extra money to buy books for themselves.
So, a few years back, I made a commitment to my educator friends and colleagues that I would figure out a way to get Leap into the hands of every educator in the country–but not by selling it to them.
I started with the idea of finding corporate sponsors to fund the distribution of the book, but, in truth, sponsorship marketing isn’t exactly in my talent wheelhouse.
Then, my publisher and I came up with a Tom’s Shoes kind of approach where we’d give a copy of the book for every copy we sold through the trade channels. I was really excited about that idea. I even made a video about it:
But the accounting and sheer logistics of that strategy just proved to be unsustainable.
And then it occurred to me: let’s just give it away in a digital format. So long, shipping! Adios, accounting nightmares!
So, here we are, with a Big Hairy Audacious Goal to get The Radical Leap Re-Energized into the hands (via tablets, laptops, devices, etc) of every educator we can find.
So, I need your help!
If you’d be willing, please email, share, tweet, etc. this download link to every educator you know–teachers, principals, superintendents, administrators, etc–in the Pre K-12 world:

And if you really want to kick it up, consider adding a few personal words to encourage them to download and read the book.
As for this premise that Extreme Leadership can help change the world of education? Now’s our chance to test the theory.
And the business justification for doing this? Well, this might sound a little naive and decidedly un-business-like, but…
I’m confident it’ll work itself out somehow.
What do you think?
